Description
A Mandala is a sacred symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe and the idea that everything is connected. The definition of Mandala literally means “circle” and when we define it in energetic terms, we find that a Mandala serves as a powerful tool for meditation. The circular, often concentric design of Mandalas tends to visually attract consciousness and awareness, allowing focus to draw inward – which is a desired outcome in meditation. It also symbolizes the concept that life is never-ending.
One type of Mandala is known as the Mantra Mandala, which consists of four Tibetan words “Om Mane Padme Hum.” These words have specific meanings and vibrations associated with them. OM represents the vibration or sound of the universe, MA represents ethics and purifies jealousy, NI represents patience and purifies want or desire, PAD represents diligence and purifies ignorance and judgement, and ME represents concentration and purifies attachment. The final word, HUM, represents the unity of all.
